ARTIST STATEMENT

Drew Camell's work exists in the tension between the technical virtuosity of the Baroque and the iconography of the 21st century. Through the consistent application of Old Master layering and glazing techniques (chiaroscuro), Camell creates works that function as a contemporary commentary on digital acceleration. His focus is on the Contemporary Realism, whereby technical perfection always serves as a vehicle for narrative wit and socio-critical depth.

ARTISTIC CAREER

• Since 2018: Intensive study of the oil paintings of the Old Masters; self-taught study of materials science and historical painting techniques.
• 2005 – 2017: Focus on urban art and monumental surface design. Specialization in high-quality paint techniques, airbrushing, and precious metal finishing (including gilding).
• Origin: His first artistic impulses came from graffiti culture (2005), which laid the foundation for his understanding of large-format composition and dynamics.

MONUMENTAL PAINTING & PROJECTS

• Realization of numerous large-scale ceiling and wall paintings in the field of contemporary illusionism (trompe-l'œil) for private and public clients.

The works are privately owned in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
